Transportation

  • Green Fleet Trucking Manager

    Veritable Vegetable (VV) is a women-owned and led organic produce distribution company based in San Francisco, California. Established in 1974, we source and deliver the freshest and highest quality produce.

    We are looking for a highly organized and experienced Trucking Manager to manage and coordinate our complex private/for-hire trucking operation, support our regional and local drivers, and ensure the highest levels of safety, customer service and environmental sustainability. This position partners with our Fleet Manager and reports to our Trucking Director.

    Our trucking department employs 30+ drivers, operating company owned Sprinter Vans, Class B bobtails, short and long trailers, day cabs and full-sized sleepers. We operate seven days a week, 365 days a year.

    All candidates should have extensive experience within the transportation industry, managing a diverse workforce and robust workflow, as well as experience designing and implementing new department procedures.

    Responsibilities

    • Workforce management, organization, support, and development
    • Monitor and maximize route efficiencies, minimize overtime, ensure compliance
    • Dispatch in compliance with DOT rules and regulations
    • Manage backhaul plan for best use of resources
    • Breakdown and accident management
    • Freight development and oversight
    • Payroll and schedule management
    • Ensure compliance for DOT and food safety regulations
    • Develop and oversee safety training and procedures
    • Participate in strategic planning, identify problems, design solutions

    Qualifications

    • 5+ years working in fresh produce transportation/logistics and at least 1 year experience with organic produce
    • General knowledge of trucking industry standards including common carrier, brokerage, contracts
    • Must have a valid Class A driver’s license and be an insurable driver
    • Prior experience driving a route and evaluating customer locations for pick up/delivery
    • Thorough knowledge of DOT federal, state, and local regulations
    • Knowledge of proper storage requirements and sensitivities of fresh fruits and vegetables
    • Experience with and knowledge of material handling equipment
    • Knowledge of best safety practices for material handling
    • Proficient using Microsoft Office Suite programs to create and edit documents.
    • Proficient using enterprise software and databases
    • Familiar with Trimble or similar telemetrics program
    • Knowledge of routing software
    • Able to read and understand equipment specification sheets

Warehouse

  • Warehouse Team Lead (Swing Shift Available)

    Veritable Vegetable (VV) is a women-owned and led organic produce distribution company based in San Francisco, California. Established in 1974, we source and deliver the freshest and highest quality produce.

    The Warehouse Team Lead is responsible for the productivity and safety of all  warehouse staff members and is accountable for assuring that shift warehouse goals are met in a safe, accurate and timely manner. The position assists the Warehouse Supervisor in maintaining high quality standards for organic fruits and vegetables with minimal product loss.

    Schedule

    • Sunday, Monday, Thursday, Friday: Swing (2:00PM – 10:30PM)
    • Saturday: Swing (1:00PM – 9:30PM)
    • Tuesday/Wednesday weekend
    • Some mandatory overtime required (typically 30-60 minutes 2x weekly)

    Responsibilities

    • Assess, plan and prioritize daily warehouse work
    • Organize and monitor paper flow throughout the shift
    • Direct and motivate warehouse staff to ensure timely and accurate completion of the work.
    • Coordinate with IC, Trucking and WH Supervisors to ensure appropriate allocation of warehouse staff to receiving, order pulling, order checking and truck loading
    • Substitute for WH Supervisors and assume operational tasks when required
    • Ensure product is handled properly, correctly labeled and placed to facilitate accurate order pulling
    • Monitor equipment and supplies needed to carry out warehouse work
    • Participate in other tasks and projects as directed by the Warehouse Supervisor

    Qualifications

    • Have at least six months experience in an organic produce distribution warehouse, demonstrating a high level of competence in all aspects of WH function.
    • Be familiar with proper storage requirements and sensitivities of fresh fruits and vegetables.
    • Be highly organized and able to lead others in accomplishing work activities.
    • Demonstrate excellent attention to detail within a multi-tasking environment.
    • Be certified and proficient on all material handling equipment.
    • Be able to communicate effectively and work closely with staff members in other departments.
    • Have the capacity and desire for engagement in the physical work of Warehouse operations.
    • Have an excellent record of timeliness and attendance.
