Durst Farms
Esparto, California https://www.durstorganicgrowers.comDurst Organic Growers operates under one philosophy: growing food should not come at the cost of workers, the environment, or flavor. Jim and Deborah Durst, founders of Durst Organic Growers, have upheld this ideology since they planted their first organic crop in 1988. The farm, located in California’s Yolo County, is now 800 acres, although only 500 are farmed at one time, in order to rotate crops and keep the soil healthy.
Durst Organic Growers is known for their cherry tomatoes, asparagus, and watermelon, but they grow a wide variety of produce, including five different types of melon! Check out this 8-minute video about the farm and their famed cherry tomatoes.
They also work with a number of community-focused organizations such as Yolo County Food Bank, Sacramento Food Bank, and the Real Organic Project.
Jim and Deborah believe that organic farming affects not only the health of the soil and the surrounding community, but also the taste of the product itself. And as it is often said at the farm, “If it doesn’t taste good, what’s the point?”
VV loves supporting this values-aligned farm and sourcing their delicious produce year-round!
