Jayleaf is a family-owned and operated farm located on the Central Coast of California, in Hollister. Jose Ornelas founded Jayleaf in 2005 on the principles of organic food, food security and health equity. “To eat organic, we are helping nurture our bodies and our planet.”  The Ornelas family’s farming roots date back to the 1980’s. With over 34 years of experience tending organic greens, and their passionate devotion to soil health, Jayleaf grows and produces the best quality baby greens around!

Always mindful of their impact on our environment, the Jayleaf processing facility is 100% solar-powered! They were also the first leafy greens producer to become a certified California Green Business. Jose reminds everyone that “we must also nurture our planet with beneficial organisms and natural soil biodiversity to restore our source of food and life for generations to come.”

Jayleaf treats employees fairly, and offers medical insurance, emergency loans, employment referral bonuses, and job advancement education to all staff. The farm continues operations during the off-season, which sustains employees year-round and allows time to plant cover crops.

Although Jayleaf has expanded as a grower, packer and nation-wide shipper, Jose also understands the importance of eating locally and how it plays a role in protecting our planet: “Local farmers are contributors to our local economies which bolster the well-being of our communities.”
