Riverdog Farm is a 450-acre certified organic, diversified family farm that grows vegetables, fruits, nuts, and raises chickens and pigs. They were started in 1990 by husband and wife team Tim Mueller and Trini Campbell. They are located in the beautiful Capay Valley where rich creek-bottom soil, intense summer heat, and winter frost make exceptionally tasty fruits and vegetables. Since the beginning, they have used a system of compost, crop rotation, cover cropping and hedgerow planting to keep their soil healthy and to promote a healthy ecosystem around their farm. Their animals are integrated into their farming system by providing natural fertilizer for orchards and fields and are all raised on organic pasture.

They grow over 80 different crops and large diversity of varieties. They have an integrated pasture grazing system throughout our orchards that enables them to utilize the space between trees for organic pasture and provides shade for the grazing chickens. The manure from the chickens acts as a natural fertilizer for the trees.

Their philosophy is that by taking care of their employees, land, and animals, they are helping to create a food system that is better for everyone—and one that tastes better too! Riverdog Farm employs 50 people year-round and have multiple generations of families working at their farm. As one of the first organic farms to sell at the Berkeley Farmers’ markets, they have been helping to bring organic, seasonal, local food to the fore of the sustainable food movement for over 25 years.

Fun Fact: VV gives any organic food that is not suitable for humans to the Riverdog hogs; they happily eat only the best certified organic fruit & vegetables! Nothing goes to waste in a sustainable food system!
