Robin’s Nest Farm

Watsonville, California

Robin’s Nest Farm is a 1.2 acre, family-run farm, located near the base of Mount Madonna in Watsonville, California. The farm’s orchard was planted by Jim Rider, an esteemed and retired grower, nearly 30 years ago. While their main crop is Granny Smith apples (a VV staff favorite!) they also grow a myriad of heirloom apples. Laura Kummerer and Daniel Casella have owned the farm since 2011, but the orchard goes back more than a century, and has been growing apples since 1895!

Laura and Daniel, along with their son Robin, work hard to preserve the historic apple orchard and restore the native oak woodland habitat that surrounds it. They understand that many hands, over many generations, have served the land and kept it healthy – they aim to continue this tradition. As Laura puts it, “we are not just growing food, we are creating a healthy ecosystem for plants, animals, and humans.”

The farm has been certified organic since the 1970’s, and Robin’s Nest Farm is passionate about sustainable practices that integrate food, family, and community.

They currently sell to various CSA’s and local markets, schools and restaurants.
