The Christopher family has been farming in California since the 1880’s, when Ole Christopher emigrated from Denmark to the Santa Clara Valley.

The Christopher Ranch in Gilroy was founded in 1956, by third-generation Don Christopher.  His expertise, reliability and commitment to excellence have helped the Ranch grow into a major international agri-business with 4000-acres, employing over 500 workers year-round and a seasonal harvesting crew of over 1,000. Their size makes them one of the largest employers in South Santa Clara County.  Don is joined by his son, Bill and fifth-generation family members, Ken and Jason.

Christopher Ranch continually works on ways to improve farming methods and customer service such as planting more garlic varieties, increasing drip irrigation to conserve water, building controlled atmosphere storage, and developing new products and pack styles.

After 50 years in the garlic industry, the Christopher family’s legacy of hard work and determination has been key to their success.

Christopher Ranch is a co-founder of the world-famous Gilroy Garlic Festival (a major fundraiser for the community) which proved to be instrumental in raising the public’s awareness – and taste – for garlic.
