County Line Harvest was founded in 2000 when David Retsky planted his first crops on six acres along the Marin-Sonoma County line in Northern California. A first-generation farmer, David discovered his passion for agriculture while living in Israel and later through the Farm & Garden program at University of California, Santa Cruz. A formative experience at Fairview Gardens in Santa Barbara introduced him to diversified organic farming and the idea that a farm could nourish both the land and the community.

After a decade in Marin, County Line expanded to Thermal, California, creating a year-round growing program in the Coachella Valley. Warm desert days and cool nights create ideal conditions for a wide range of crops. Today, the 200-acre certified organic farm grows everything from Little Gems, arugula, spinach, and lacinato kale to rainbow carrots, Tokyo turnips, chicories, and other seasonal specialties.

Diversity remains at the heart of County Line’s farming philosophy.  The farm grows roughly 50 crops grown throughout the year, supporting healthy soil, beneficial insects, and greater resilience in the face of changing weather patterns. This commitment to biodiversity also allows the team to offer an everchanging selection of unique and flavorful produce.

Family and curiosity continue to shape the farm’s future. In 2025, David’s son Nico joined the business, bringing a new generation into the operation and a shared enthusiasm for discovering unique varieties. Whether trialing new crops from seed catalogs or introducing specialty greens inspired by travels abroad, the farm remains dedicated to growing produce with outstanding flavor, character, and quality.

Grows:

Arugula, Mustard Greens, Mizuna, Kale, Rainbow Chard, Frisee, Lettuce, Chicory, Carrot, Radish, Turnip. Basil, Peppers, Squash, Corn and more specialty varieties
