Eco Farms

Temecula, CA https://ecofarmsusa.com/

Eco Farms is based in Temecula, in Southern California, where they have been growing, packing, shipping and distributing avocados for over 50 years. The company was founded in 1972 by Steve Taft and Norman Traner who shared a philosophy for sustainable, organic farming. The name Eco Farms (from the phrase “ecological farming”) reflects this ethos.

Steve, currently President of Eco Farms, began growing, packing, and selling produce from his family’s farm in the Pauma Valley area in the early 1970’s. His parents were strong advocates of natural farming, using biological fertilizers and limiting the use of pesticides, which had a strong impact on Steve’s farming principles. Truly a leader in the trade, Eco Farms was the first to grow and market organic avocados in the USA! They were one of the first to import Chilean avocados, paving the way for the Mexican export crop that dominates the global avocado market today.

Today, Eco Farms markets extensive varieties of organic and conventional avocado, organic citrus and specialty fruits, such as dragon fruit and kumquat. They own and manage avocado and citrus groves throughout California, partnering with local growers. Eco Farms also imports avocados from Mexico and South America. A few years ago, Eco Farms joined forces with The Oppenheimer Group “Oppy”, a  premier grower, shipper and distributor originally based in Canada. Established in 1858 in British Columbia, Oppy has more than one hundred and sixty-five years of fresh produce experience, and a long-standing commitment to sustainable practices. These partnerships allow Eco Farms to provide year-round supply of high-quality produce.

VV is proud to have supported Eco Farms since we started business in 1974. Steve personally mentored many VV buyers through the years, and has always been generous with his time and knowledge.

Their commitment to growing good, nourishing food and creating a positive impact in the world truly sets them apart.
