Carpinteria, California

Las Palmalitas Ranch is located in Carpinteria in Southern California. Carpinteria and the Central Coast have become the heart of the California avocado growing region. The fertile soil of California provides prime growing conditions for excellent and premium avocados. Their 20-acre farm has been owned by one family for over 150 years. In 1868, the Thurmond family came from North Carolina to settle in the Carpinteria Valley. The land was eventually taken over by the Upsons, the Peters and finally Will and Sharron Carleton.

In 2000, they became a certified organic farm and packing facility. In addition to packing their own fruit, they pack for a few small certified farms and 50-acres from neighboring family members who are also certified organic.

Will Carleton believes that what we do to this earth will be important to our children as well as our grandchildren. According to Will, the lighter the touch, the longer we can enjoy what nature has provided. “Avocados have survived a long time before pesticides and chemical fertilizers,” he adds; “and they will continue to do very well without them.”
