Maywood Farms
Corning, California https://www.maywoodfarms.com/Maywood Farms, a 265-acre organic fig farm in Northern California, is owned and operated by Bob Steinacher. CCOF certified organic since 1990, the farm is home to five exceptional varieties of figs: Mission, Adriatic, Kadota, Excel, and Brown Turkey.
Maywood Farms’ entire operation is located on one site. This includes the orchard, packing shed, cooler, and Bob’s home. As a result, the figs are shipped immediately after being fully cooled.
Bob had always dreamed of being a farmer since a young age. Trained as an entomologist, he was attracted to production agriculture, and started working on farms before establishing his own place. In 1986 he hand-picked and packed his first harvest, then drove the figs to the San Francisco Terminal Produce Market, four hours each way! But the response from wholesale buyers was so good that he decided to focus on the fresh fig market. The rest is history!
Fun Fact: Maywood Farm’s current logo depicts the view from Bob’s living room window. The mountain in the background is Mt. Shasta. In the foreground is a 10-acre beaver pond. The north fork of Hall Creek borders the farm on two sides.
