Oz Farm
Point Arena, California http://www.ozfarm.com/Oz Farm, an organic farm and retreat center, is located in a private valley on the scenic Mendocino Coast. Bordered with majestic redwood trees and the spectacular Garcia River, Oz Farm offers 240 acres of secluded hiking paths, scenic river walks, fresh produce and restorative peace and quiet. Due to its location, Oz Farm is also managed as a sustainable working forest and governed by a conservation easement. The farm is located on the traditional land of the Pomo People.
Oz Farm is committed to living sustainability and aspires to educate the public on sustainable food systems and holistic life practices. The farm is almost entirely ‘off-the-grid’, using solar and wind power for all its energy needs. Their integrated system produces 8 kilowatts of power which is used to pump water for their agricultural and retreat operations.
Since 1990, Oz Farm has been growing certified organic (CCOF) apples and pears as well as a full range of vegetables. They specialize in the production of unusual and antique apples that are “espaliered,” trained on trellises in rows much like grapes in vineyards.
Village Oz, the farm’s nonprofit branch runs an apprenticeship program to educate aspiring farmers. Over the years, 17 apprentices have graduated from the program.
