Peach season is picking up speed, and we’re feeling the fuzz! These sweet summer staples belong to the rose family and are closely related to almonds, cherries, and apricots. Peaches and nectarines are actually the same species; just one gene separates the fuzz from the smooth.
There are over 2,000 peach varieties worldwide, from classic yellow-fleshed types with bright acidity to ultra-sweet white and sub-acid cultivars. They’re classified as clingstone or freestone depending on how easily the fruit pulls away from the pit, not that you can tell by looking!
Peaches have deep roots – originating in China over 6,000 years ago and once prized more for their blossoms than their fruit. Today, California is a top producer, alongside Georgia and South Carolina. In Japan, the most perfect white peaches can fetch $10 apiece!
Whether eaten fresh, grilled, baked, or blended, peaches are a juicy reminder that summer’s around the corner!

Limited
- Apple: Cosmic Crisps are winding down. Envy are available through July. Fuji apples from First Fruits will be winding down and prices will increase. Expect higher pricing as supply tightens. Domestic Granny Smith apples are winding down quickly – we only have Premium grade available.

- Broccoli: Bunched broccoli is tightening up so expect prices to go up.
- Cherry: It’s been a tough season for our California growers, but our local Bings are finally here! Enjoy them while you can.
