There’s still plenty to enjoy before summer winds down. Stone fruit, melons, grapes, figs, tomatoes and peppers are all still making a strong showing, with plenty of opportunities to promote. 

At the same time, we’re starting to see the first signs of fall. Gravenstein and new-crop apples, Asian pears and European pears are arriving, while the grape lineup is shifting into new specialty varieties like the spectacular Bronx Seedless and Hamburg Muscat. 

This is a great window to merchandise both seasons. Keep the summer fruit front and center while introducing a few new-crop apples and pears. It keeps the department feeling fresh without moving on from the fruit shoppers are still looking for. 

New & Exciting! 

Biodynamic Thompson Green Grape: Intensely sweet, juicy and flavorful and seedless. These grapes are hand-picked at peak ripeness and packed in environmental white paper totes—which shows off their gorgeous color. Unlike almost all non-organic and organic grape growers, Marian Farms never treats their vines with gibberellic acid to increase berry size.  Remember amber color indicates sugar!     

Bronx Grape (right): Nandamuri Farm is carrying on the Bronx grape program from Lagier Ranches, with the same 8 lb, 8-count fiber clamshells as in years past. These seedless grapes are known for their beautiful pale green to rosy pink color and sweet, juicy almost candied flavor. Worth every penny. 

Hamburg Muscat: Old-school favorite with deep purple skin and an unmistakably floral, muscat-like aroma. Sweet, juicy, and intensely fragrant. 

Jicama: Guess who’s back? We’re excited to have this crisp, juicy favorite back in the mix, from the Guzman Family. Mildly sweet with a refreshing crunch, it’s great for snacking, salads, slaws, and summer dishes. 

Keitt Mango: We have both California and Mexican-grown Keitts available, with the same rich, tropical flavor and firm, juicy flesh this variety is known for. Sweet with a bright, tangy finish, Keitts stay green even when ripe.  

New Crop Gala Apple: California-grown by Ferrari Farms, these crisp, juicy Galas have that classic sweet, lightly floral flavor that makes them an easy favorite. Available in 100s, 113s, and convenient 12×3 bags. 

Pear: Asian Pears have landed! Crisp, juicy, and floral—20th Century, Chojuro, Hosui, Niitaka and Shinseki are just starting from Earthseed Farm and Bucktown Roots. Red Starkrimson from Columbia George in Oregon have also arrived. Beautiful crimson skin and delicate sweet flavor, but a very small crop! 

Peppers: New peppers are here! ️ Purple Bell Peppers, Corno di Toro in Red and Yellow, and bright Gypsy Orange are all joining the lineup. A fun mix of colors and shapes, with plenty of flavor for grilling, roasting, stuffing, or eating fresh. 

Specialty Melon: Spice up your melon display with one of the unique specialty melons available now.  

• Korean: Crisp like a cucumber and mildly sweet like honeydew. 90% water content–very juicy! 
• Haogen: Sweet, juicy, and aromatic with a creamy texture and rich tropical flavor. 
• Orange Cube: Bright orange flesh, a juicy texture, and sweet, refreshing flavor.

Angelino Black Plum: Still steady for a while longer. Enjoy this late season variety that is crunchy, sweet and well-balanced.

Fig: Figs are abundant (and awesome!) We’ve got Black Mission, Adriatic, Brown Turkey, Excel, and Kadota from Maywood Farms. Some new varieties from Knoll Farm including Melissa and Panache Tiger. Let’s figgin’ go! 

Grape: While some specialty varieties are done, there are still plenty of grapes to be enjoyed. Check out diamond-shaped green Rugby, sweet Flames from Capay Canyon Ranch, and tight clustered Mayabelles from Murray Farms. Jammy black/purple-skin Thomcord are in good supply.  

Melon: What is summer without melons? Now is the time to promote! Galia brings fragrant, tropical sweetness. Cantaloupe delivers that classic juicy, deeply aromatic melon flavor while Honeydew is crisp, refreshing, and wonderfully sweet. All three are in strong supply and ready to promote. 

Meyer Lemon: In great supply. Sweet, juicy, and less tart than traditional lemons, with a fragrant floral aroma and thin, easy-to-use skin. A great buy for everything from dressings and cocktails to baking and preserves.  

Hass Avocado: Las Palmalitas Ranch has abundance in all sizes. Foothill Organics is also packing again. 

Passionfruit: Passionfruit is having a moment! We have volume on these intensely aromatic, sweet-tart beauties, perfect for adding a bright pop of flavor to drinks, desserts. 

Italian Sugar Plum: from Wild River are in good supply for the moment. 

Tomato: A great lineup for peak summer tomato season. Cherry tomatoes are available in a colorful mix—from Sungolds to Chocolate Pearls and Mixed Medleys. Heirlooms are going strong with mixed and straight packs alongside flavorful, and ever popular dry-farmed Early Girls.
