• VV is aware of the elevated cyclosporiasis activity reported across parts of the country and is actively monitoring it closely alongside the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the International Fresh Produce Association, and our grower and shipper partners. 
• Our growers operate under the FDA’s Food Safety Modernization Act (Produce Safety Rule), and our lot-level traceability lets us respond quickly if any product is ever identified as a concern. 
• The safety of the produce we distribute is central to everything we do. If anything changes, we’ll act promptly and contact any affected customers directly. 

 What is Cyclosporiasis? 

• Cyclosporiasis (SYE-kloh-spor-EYE-uh-sis), is a seasonal intestinal illness caused by a microscopic parasite and is spread through contaminated food or water.
• It does not spread person to person.  

What’s known right now: 

• There is no recall or food safety alert related to any product we distribute. No specific food, farm, grower, or supplier has been identified as the source, and no recall has been issued.  
• The bulk of reported cases are in four midwestern states: Michigan, Ohio, West Virginia and Kentucky, which remain under investigation. National case counts are within the typical seasonal range. 
• Public health officials are not advising anyone to stop eating fruits and vegetables. 
• Public health officials are recommending thoroughly washing all produce under running water, washing hands before and after handling, and keeping prep surfaces clean.
