What’s sweet, sun-kissed, and bursting with color? Only the undisputed stars of summer—heirloom and cherry tomatoes. These beauties come in every shade of the rainbow, from deep crimson and golden yellow to rich purples and marbled greens, each variety with its own distinct flavor and personality.
Heirloom tomatoes are living pieces of history—open-pollinated varieties passed down for at least 50 years, often through the hands of the same farming families. Some trace their roots to Europe, brought to North America by immigrants in the 19th century; others are native to the Americas, where tomatoes were first domesticated in Mexico and Central America. Names like Brandywine and Cherokee Purple hint at the regions, cultures, and stories they carry. More than just beautiful, heirlooms were selected generation after generation for unmatched flavor, color, and adaptability—a tradition that continues today.
Cherry tomatoes, on the other hand, are the snackable gems of the tomato world: crisp-skinned, candy-sweet, and impossible to resist by the handful. They pack concentrated bursts of sunshine into every bite, making them just as at home in a salad as they are straight from the carton.
Right now, we’re showcasing mixed heirlooms and beefsteaks from Veliz Organic Family Farm (VV exclusive), and Romas from Sunrise Organic Farm for sauces and slicing. On the cherry side, the abundance is real—mixed cherries from Veliz Organic Family Farm, Coke Farm, and Sunrise Organic Farm, plus black cherries priced to move for those who love their tomatoes with a dusky, rich sweetness.
